GM Puma Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility WOW

Initially, you would think that anyone who’s driving the PUMA is driving an electric wheelchair. A closer look however shows you something more. That’s because the PUMA, which stands for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility is a two-seater vehicle that intends to allow people to travel faster, especially in today’s crowded streets.
It’s just like the highly-popular Segway, although General Motors tells that it’s cheaper and more energy efficient. Having two wheels, the PUMA is powered by one lithium-ion battery that can be charged in any conventional power outlet. Just like most electric vehicles, it can travel as fast as 25 mph, with a total range of 56 kilometers.
The goal of the PUMA is to let people cover as much space as possible, using very little time. Aside from that, it enables people to thread small areas and cramped city spaces without putting much effort at all. Right now, PUMA is still at the development stage although I wouldn’t be surprised if it performs as good as Segway after it is launched.

2011 GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept

Camp Chevy has sorely lacked a response to Ford’s F-150 SVT Raptor but evidently someone, at least in the concept department, has been listening. Based off the four-door 2011 Sierra HD, the 2011 All Terrain concept is powered by Chevy’s potent 6.6 liter Duramax V8 diesel engine, which is good for 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft (!) of glorious twist. Three inches of lift and 4″ of width have been added to accommodate the mammoth 35″ BGGoodrich KM2 mud-terrain tires wrapped around 20″ aluminum wheels. Other additions included Fox off-road shocks, satin metal and leather wrapped interior, and stereo upgrades galore. GM has no plans to bring this concept to production, but all we have to say is, “build it and they will come.”

Awsome BMW MERRY X MASS AD

Mini Paceman Concept - Auto Shows

Arguably the best looking MINI yet, the new Paceman (not Pacman) concept is what the fun British brand refers to as a Sports Activity Coupe. Along the lines of the BMW X6, the Paceman takes MINI’s new Countryman crossover and lops-off two of the doors.
The concept car appears to be somewhat lower than the Countryman, but as is obvious from the flared rear fenders, it does feature all-wheel drive. As for what’s under the hood, well, this is a concept and so it’s MINI’s best offering: the 211-hp John Cooper Works turbocharged 4-cylinder.

2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe

Since its inception, the BMW 1 Series has always been a bit of an ugly duckling — there, steadfast, ready to perform, but simply too repulsive to seriously consider. Then, one day, (coincidentally the same time we received a batch of photos) the BMW 1 Series underwent the Mermaid Theory and we suddenly found ourselves overwrought with attraction. You may too. The Motorsport treatment is finally coming to the 1 Series with the 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe and ‘ze German is lighter, tauter and rowdier. For the 1, BMW has tuned the much-lauded twin-turbocharged engine to generate 335 horsepower paired with an overboost feature that spins up-to 369 lb-ft of torque for short bursts — that’s good for 4.7 second 0-60 mph times. BMW has also made body improvements for aerodynamics and the wider stance, significantly revised the suspension, enlarged the brakes, tuned the exhaust, and added 19″ wheels from the M3 Competition Package. Further proof the 1 Series M Coupe is for enthusiasts: it’s only available with a short-shift six-speed manual.

Porsche Design Bobsleigh

If traditional sleds leave you for want, then perhaps Porsche Design Bobsleigh ($260) is more your cup of nog. Designed after a pair of parabolic skis, Porsche Design has designed an ultralight advanced composite bobsled (just 8.8 lbs) with improved steer-ability and a specifically designed camber angle that keeps surface contact at the edge of the runners for better maneuverability. In fact, it takes little more than a body shifts within the formed seat to quickly steer or slow the bobsled. Ironically, the performance sled also meets German safety standards and includes a storage bag. Now, about that turbo…

2015 Lotus Eterne Hybrid Concept Unveiled at 2010 Paris Auto Show

PARIS — Think of it as a statement of intent, says Lotus of its Eterne luxury four-seater GT hybrid, which bears quite a resemblance to Aston Martin's four-door Rapide. That intent is planning for a launch in spring 2015. The Eterne debuted today at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
The Eterne would be Lotus' first four-door sedan if it makes the showroom, powered by the same Toyota-sourced 620-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 employed by the new Esprit. A hybrid drive system is optional, comprising electric motors and a Formula-1-style KERS energy recuperation system. The Eterne will be offered in both rear- and all-wheel-drive forms with a full hybrid transmission that's good for 196 mph and a 0-60-mph time of 4.0 seconds. It's projected to cost $190,000.

2011 Lexus CT 200h

Lexus says the point of the Drive Mode Select is to allow "highly distinct characters" for more driver choice. Waxing poetic, the company calls the CT 200h's "hybrid attitude" the Darker Side of Green.
The four driving modes are Normal, Eco, EV and Sport. The first three are intended to emphasize "more relaxed driving" including smooth acceleration and minimal interior noise. The EV mode is for speeds under 25 mph and for up to a mile, on electric motor power unaided by the engine. Eco mode reduces throttle response to "aggressive" use of the accelerator and modifies the air-conditioning for the best fuel economy.
As its name suggests, Sport mode is the most dynamic choice, with faster response to driver input, higher rpm and more direct steering feedback. Operation of Lexus' vehicle stability control and traction control systems is "less intrusive" for more driving fun, the automaker says.
The Normal, EV and Eco modes use a "hybrid blue" backlighting on the instrument panel and show a hybrid power indicator. In Sport mode, the backlighting changes to red and the hybrid power indicator is swapped out for a tachometer.

2012 Porsche Cayman R

In a world where single letter monikers demarcate unique editions, Porsche reserves “R” for its special, very special cars. Coming this February, the 2012 Porsche Cayman R ($66,000-$91,000) will arrive to driving enthusiasts’ delight with 10 more horsepower (330 total) and 120 less pounds. Porsche acheives the weight reduction through aluminum door skins, lighter 19″ alloy wheels, fixed spoiler, carbon fiber seats and tossing out trivialities like air conditioning and sound systems giving the Cayman R a svelte 2,855 lb dry weight. Combine this with the 3.4 liter flat-six mid-engine’s extra power, virtually flawless PDK dual-clutch transmission. limited-slip differential, Sport Chrono package and you have yourself a 4.4 second 0-60 mph Porsche Cayman. As for the color, it’s safe to say that only Porsche could pull off the equivalent of lime green and still make it look so damn good.

Startech Land Rover Defender 90 Yachting Edition

Danish tuning company Startech has leaked a custom variant for one of our most favorite vehicles, the Land Rover Defender. On display at this year’s Essen Motorshow, the Land Rover Defender 90 Yachting Edition is essentially a standard hardtop Defender SVX from the outside only distinguished by its custom bright white paint, running boards with integrated entrance lights and wider tires. The interior, however, is a different story completely. Startech has swapped out the standard leather with a custom navy blue leather complete with contrasting seams. The leather is liberally applied across nearly every coverable surface including the paint-matched Recaro seats. Other “upgrades” include a navy blue Alcantara headliner, navigation and revamped sound system, custom steering wheel, and other component upgrades — many swathed in the same custom leather. A ruggedized Defender this is not, but after all, you know what they say about yachting being a lifestyle…

Chevy Volt ‘Car Of The Year’ And ‘Automobile Of The Year’

For several years now, the public has been waiting for the launch of the Chevrolet Volt.  The Volt is an extended-range electric vehicle, a technology that has never been mass produced before.  The Volt will be charged by the owner over night, provided a 40 mile, electric only range from its batteries.  Once that charge is depleted, a small gas generator kicks in to power the car.
Once production was announced for the car, people began to wonder about the price.  The battery technology alone was said to cost close to $10,000, not to mention the car has two powertrains.  Well the wait is over, we finally know how much the Volt will cost the early adopters.  The purchase price for a Volt is $41,000, with a lease option pegged at $350 a month for 36 months with $2,500 down.  Not a bad price in my opinion, as costs will surely come down significantly with the second generation Volt, especially as production increases above the initial 10,000 units planned for the first year.

U.S. Fiat 500s To Start At $15,500

Can’t get enough of the obscenely cute Fiat 500? Want to put one in your garage as soon as possible? There’s good news from Fiat/Chrysler: the diminutive urban commuter will start at just $15,500, for the base trim level (called “Pop”) with no options and no dealership “ADM”, which won’t be easy to find given the interest in the 500. The mid-level trim package is called “Sport”, and this comes with a stiffer suspension, 16” alloy wheels, performance exhaust and revised front and rear fascias. Sport versions start at $17,500 before you add options (and dealer price gouging). At the upper end is the Fiat 500 Lounge, which focuses on luxury and amenities and starts at $19,500. If you go crazy checking option boxes, it’s not difficult to get a Fiat 500 Lounge over $24,000; that’s a little steep for an urban commuter car, but it’s still less than a well optioned Mini.

Formula 3 Race Car vs Nissan GT-R

Comparing a full blown race car to a production street car is kind of like comparing an F-18 Hornet to the Space Shuttle. Sure they both fly, and yes they’re both fast, but in the end both flying machines were constructed for two extremely different purposes. The above test compares a world championship Formula 3 race car with a bone stock Nissan GT-R street car. The Nissan is equipped with all-wheel drive and pumps out 485 hp as compared to the Formula 3′s 220 hp, but it also weighs 3-times as much. That weight, plus its lack of functional down force are the Nissan’s Achilles’ heel. Comparisons like this are nothing new, but I think it would have been more interesting to compare the Nissan’s time in the dry to the F3 cars time in the wet. At least then the Nissan would have had a fighting chance.

With the limited production run of Hennessey’s 2010 HPE700 Camaro long since sold-out, the company has announced they will build another 24 units for the 2011 model year. This latest run of HPE700′s will include the addition of the new convertible model (from Chevrolet) and an increase in power from its supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8 – the same engine found in the Corvette ZR1.

HPE founder and president, John Hennessey said, “We have already sold a several of our 2011 HPE700′s in hardtop form, increasing the potential for the convertible LS9 Camaro to become an even rarer option than before”. “I expect that we will sell all 24 units just as we did in 2010. However this time we will probably sell-out even sooner as the convertible option will certainly be attractive – especially with 755 horsepower”.
As with the 2010 model year, the 2011 HPE700 LS9 Camaro will be limited to just 24 units, with no set allocation between coupe and convertible. Pricing for the complete HPE700 upgrade, including the base vehicle, is $132,500 and can be ordered directly through HPE or one of Hennessey’s authorized Chevrolet dealers.

World's largest car collection

If you've ever wondered who has the largest private car collection in the world, wonder no more. Until his death in 2000, Harold E. LeMay had the distinction of laying claim to that title with over 3,000 classic vehicles in his possession. His gems included everything from a 1916 Abadal Buick to a 1983 DeLorean DMC 12 and pretty much everything in between. Just before LeMay passed away, he formed a non-profit group with the goal of building a massive museum to house his collection and educate the public on the impact and evolution of the automobile.

LeMay's vision for the garage to end all garages was no less grand than his collection – a massive steel and arched glass structure designed by Alan Grant of Grant Architects. After a decade of fundraising by LeMay's widow and a number of grants from state and local governments, the LeMay America's Car Museum officially broke ground this week. The project is expected to cost a total of $100 million when completed, and will feature complete educational exhibits in addition to showcasing the collection. For more information on the cars and the museum, be sure to check out the LeMay Museum site.

Fuel economy improves, thanks to a smaller V-6 and an available turbocharged four-cylinder. Without last year's optional V-8, however, towing capacity drops to a crossover-competitive 5,000 pounds. Front-wheel drive and three rows of seats are standard; all-wheel drive with Ford's new Terrain Management System is optional. Ford's MyFord Touch system, with touch-sensitive controls similar to those in the restyled Edge crossover, is also optional.

Trim levels include the base, XLT and Limited. All three come with the V-6; the turbo four-cylinder will be optional on front-wheel-drive models.

the Ultimate Bose Ride For Trucker

When engineer Jim Parison, rode with a driver hauling Bose bounty, he was astonished at the pounding the pavement provided and worsened on Atlantic Avenue in Boston.
“We were astounded at the bumps that the standard under-the-seat suspension could not absorb,” recalled Bose chief engineer Mike Rosen. “We came away thinking there has to be a better way and we could use our technology to help.”
In the conventional setup, when a force pushes on a spring, it pushes back. The Bose Ride actuator intercepts and counteracts the waves or vibrations from the road into the rig. The driver is nearly in constant motion as the spring cushions the forces but never counters them.
“When a truck hits a pothole, it’s sensed by the Bose Ride, the floor of the cab is accelerating downward. The computer tells the linear actuator to provide an upward force, carrying the driver over the pothole,” Rosen said.
“At the other end, the force will be pushing up, the actuator tells it to go down with the truck floor, keeping the driver level.
In the process, the actuator converts to being a generator: When the road goes down – it uses energy to push down and hold up the seat. When the road goes back, you recover energy from the road to hold the driver up.”
The Bose Ride can also be turned off – and often is – when drivers jockey trailers in yards, acting as a conventional OEM seat, making it two seats in one.

2011 Boxster Spyder by Porsche

The Boxster Spyder features a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with Direct Fuel Injection upfront of the rear axle. Maximum output is 320 horsepower, 10 more than the Boxster S.
The combination of more horsepower, 176 lbs. less weight than the award-winning Boxster S, an all-new sport suspension that lowers the Boxster Spyder 20 mm, a lower center of gravity, a standard limited slip differential, and exclusive wheels provide the kind of driving dynamics that back up the unique look. Aluminum door skins and lightweight interior door panels from the 911 GT3 RS contribute to the weight reduction.
When equipped with Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission and the Sports Chrono Package, the new Spyder, using Launch Control, accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Top track speed is 166 mph – with the roof open.

2010 Tesla Roadster Sport first drive

Given the 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport’s $129,000 price tag and small cabin, it is a niche car for early adopters. But those early adopters will find a car suitable to drive to work every day while not spending a penny on gas. Engineering types can thrill to the car’s statistics, such as the electric motor’s 92 percent efficiency, while sporting types will get a kick out of the immense acceleration, if not the cornering. The bottom line is that this car has the most technically advanced power train in a production car today, with greater range and speed than any other electric car on the market.

Through these means, R8 GT hundred kilograms lighter than the regular model. R8 GT with the 5.2 l V10 engine, 560 hp maximum power, even beyond the Lamborghini used the same engine.
